Regular weight bearing exercise is needed to sustain bone strength. Osteoporosis is mainly caused by a lack of weight bearing exercise. When greater forces are applied to the bone structure, it increases strength by laying down denser mineral deposits. Increases in muscle strength from exercise are very visible and although you can't see it, bone reacts the same way and strengthens according to use.
Muscles build according to their use. No special exercises are required. When using the orthotic devices in strong shoes, your entire leg is correctly aligned so that all joints and the working muscles are functioning in healthy alignment. Normal activities like walking, cycling or running will aid recovery and build muscles in correct balance so improvements in function are ongoing. Over time a person can progress to undertake even more vigorous activity
All that is needed is to be committed in the constant wearing of the devices and strict in the selection of shoes.
Rehabilitation from injury - both on the football field and workplace is complicated by existing inherited misalignment which we all suffer from to varying degrees and are viewed as normal. Slight misalignment that you coped with before becomes an issue when you have created damage e.g. to a knee in a mishap. There is no awareness of the commonly occurring misalignments and their implications amongst traditional practitioners. This is evident world wide in all sports, individual and team. For example injured football players are seen coming and going from the treatment rooms wearing thongs, feet rolling and legs turning on each step. The misalignments combine with the injury creating further damage and preventing recovery. Any misalignment that predisposes injury needs to be corrected to allow recovery and prevent ongoing wear/injury. Very few players ever make it back to play at all, let alone at their previous level. They are sidelined and eventually retire early. Skeletal structure sets alignment and practitioners who focus on muscles will not succeed with your rehabilitation.
